92 EV Chargers Installed At Bay Area Apartment Complex

Last Updated on: 30th June 2025, 11:58 am

Ninety-two electric vehicle chargers have been installed at the The Woodland Creek apartment complex in East Palo Alto, CA. The installation is part of the Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE) “EV Ready” program. PCE and Pando Electric hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 28 to officially launch the charger installation.

Owners of single family homes who have electric vehicles can have home chargers installed so they can conveniently charge at home. Electric vehicles owners who live at condo and apartment complexes typically don’t have home chargers installed, at least not at this point in the EV revolution, though more EV chargers may be installed at such places.

Installing over 90 EV chargers at one apartment complex is a big deal because it makes home charging available to people who otherwise would most likely not have it. EV owners at condo and apartment complex who don’t have access to onsite chargers need to charge their vehicles at public chargers. So, they must drive to a nearby charging location and/or charge at their worksites, if chargers are available there. Having onsite charging also helps people who work remotely and do not have worksites to go to where there may be EV charging available.

Phillip Kobernick, PCE’s associate director of energy programs, answered the first set of questions below and Pando Electric, the project developer, answered the second set.

How many chargers were installed at the Woodland Creek apartment complex?

92 total.

Will they connect to all types of EVs?

These smart outlets are a “bring your own charging cord” system. So drivers will need to use their own high power portable charging cable. Many EVs already have this when you buy them.

Will each resident of the complex have their own charger?

Yes, a charger was installed for each household.

Will any of the electricity used by the new chargers come from clean sources?

Yes! PCE is already providing clean electricity to the community (at a discounted price compared to PG&E), including these new chargers.

How many residents there currently have their own EVs?

We started with 5 EVs in February, we have since had two residents purchase EVs now that they have convenient access to charging, so a total of 7 to date.

What is the charging rate for each charger?

$0.42/kWh, this is their local utility rate and Pando simply acts as a passthrough, we are working on ways to bring this cost down.

Which manufacturer provided the chargers?

Pando manufactures our own chargers.

What is the charging speed for each charger?

9.6 kW.
