Energy storage developer-operator Aypa Power and utility Salt River Project (SRP) have brought the 250MW/1,000MWh Pediment energy storage project online in Mesa, Arizona.

Announced 16 June, the battery energy storage system (BESS) is located in the Elliot Road Technology Corridor in Mesa.

Aypa Power acquired the Pediment project from independent power producer (IPP) Eolian in 2024, marking the first of two contracted projects with SRP and, it claims, a significant addition to the utility’s expanding energy storage portfolio.

The company is also developing a second 250MW/2,000MWh lithium-ion BESS for SRP, scheduled to begin operations in December 2028.
