Energy-efficient homes drive demand among buyers in Spain

Interest in energy-efficient homes is growing across Spain, with buyers increasingly seeking properties that can reduce both household bills and carbon emissions.

According to Taylor Wimpey España, sustainability has become a key topic during the homebuying process, with prospective buyers asking more questions about energy ratings, insulation and long-term heating and cooling costs.

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey España, said: “Sustainability is now a prominent part of our pre-purchase conversations with many buyers. Buyers want to know about insulation, energy efficiency, and heating and cooling costs. They have a dual focus, looking on the one hand at reducing their CO2 emissions and on the other at futureproofing their homes against rising energy costs.”

The company said its A-rated homes combine thermal insulation, high-performance windows and doors, low-energy appliances and efficient heating and cooling systems.

Solar panels and aerothermal technology are also used to improve energy efficiency and increase self-sufficiency.

Taylor Wimpey España said an A-rated home can consume up to 90% less energy than properties with E, F or G ratings. Annual energy bills can also be reduced by between 20% and 40%, depending on the property’s size, location and household usage.

Demand has been strong across several developments.

Pritchard added: “Buyers of all ages are keen to prioritise sustainability and energy efficiency. Homes that are kinder to the planet and to owners’ monthly energy budgets present a double win.”
