The Argentinian Government has awarded 700MW of battery energy storage system (BESS) in its latest tender, AlmaSADI, covering the entire country.
Launched earlier this year, the tender sought BESS capacity with a 4-hour duration across the country and ended up receiving 235 bids with a combined 8.3GW. Interest in BESS in the Argentinian market continues to be high, as the previous tender, which awarded 713MW BESS last year, attracted 1.3GW of applications, however that tender solely focused on Buenos Aires.
Wholesale market operator CAMMESA (Compañía Administradora del Mercado Mayorista Eléctrico Sociedad Anónima) selected 20 projects in the AlmaSADI tender, with Argentinian renewables developer Genneia securing the most volume with 421MW across seven projects, followed by fellow developer DQD Energy with 149.5MW across eight projects, as shown in the treemap below.
Other companies awarded capacity in the AlmaSADI tender are renewables developers 360 Energy Solar (3 projects and 68MW) and Intermepro (1 and 12MW), as well as Argentinian aluminium producer Aluar with a 50MW project in the northern region of Corrientes.

The average price for the awarded projects was US$8,427/MW/month, with the lowest price at US$7,632 for the 100MW Bragado I-II project from Genneia, which will be located in the Buenos Aires Province. The highest price was set at US$9,705 for a 10MW project from DQD Energy in the NEA Chaco-Formosa region.
Prices for the AlmaSADI tender ended up much lower than the previous one, which had seen prices oscillate between US$10,000-12,000/MW/month last year.
Moreover, the province of Buenos Aires ended up with the most volume awarded with 185MW, followed by the northeast region composed of the Chaco and Formosa provinces with 161.5MW.
