Invinity sells 43MWh long-duration flow battery system to US Midwest rural electric cooperative

Flow battery company Invinity Energy Systems has sold 43MWh of battery systems to utility Dairyland Power Cooperative for deployment across long duration energy storage (LDES) projects in the US Midwest.

Announced 3 August the project forms part of the Rural Energy Viability for Integrated Vital Energy (REVIVE) programme which is being supported by funding from the US Department of Energy (DOE), which Invinity previously announced in September 2023.

Invinity’s vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs) will help support grid resilience and reliability across multiple locations in Dairyland’s Upper Midwest service territory, with delivery expected to begin in late 2027.

Dairyland said it selected Invinity’s Endurium technology for its ability to perform long-duration charge/discharge cycles as demand and supply fluctuate. Invinity’s US market delivery track record and field performance of existing assets were also key factors in the selection.
