Envision wins orders for wind turbines and BESS in India with Juniper Green Energy

This tender was the first hosted by public sector power company SJVN with 1.5GW of capacity being successful. The FDRE has previously been described as the “ideal” structure for encouraging investment in energy storage for India by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) and JMK Research.

In this tender round, Juniper Green Energy won a supply contract of 150MW. The firm said it will deploy the wind turbines at various projects won under State and Central level auctions.

Envision will supply its standardised 20-foot containerised 5MWh capacity battery storage units featuring 315Ah cells and will provide comprehensive lifecycle O&M services. In addition to battery storage technology, Envision’s core activities include wind turbine manufacture and green hydrogen solutions.

In addition to the BESS deal, Envision will also supply 1GW of its EN 182|5MW Turbine Platform technology for the developer’s wind projects, which were awarded through various other state and centrally-coordinated clean energy solicitations.

Envision Energy India’s managing director, RPV Prasad, said the partnership is significant for the business as it opens a new market in India.

“This maiden Energy Storage supply to Juniper opens a new market for Envision Energy India and further strengthens our resolve to support industrial decarbonisation efforts of our customers. With a customer-first approach, laser focus on quality and safety, we strive to deliver optimal energy solutions to our customers,” Prasad said.

The Union Government of India’s Ministry of Power published frameworks for the award of Firm Dispatchable Renewable Energy on a competitive tariff-based bidding model in 2023.

Multiple tenders have been issued by different state agencies, including the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and the power producer NTPC. However, these tenders have encountered some challenges, leading to the need for reconfigurations and adjustments to their terms to make them less demanding for developers.

Delhi-headquartered Juniper Green Energy is an independent renewable energy producer and specialises primarily in solar PV and wind. The company started operations in 2018 and currently operates a portfolio of around 1.1GW renewable energy assets with 3.4GW under construction.
