It is claimed that the Origin Battery Lite plan offers participants up to AU$400 (US$282) in first-year value, paying AU$1 per kWh for energy exports when grid demand requires it, capped at 200kWh annually. This option remains available with any Origin electricity plan, providing flexibility for existing customers.
Origin’s Battery Maximiser plan provides uncapped export earnings with automated VPP participation, featuring a peak feed-in tariff of 22 cents per kWh. The system automatically manages charging and discharging cycles to optimise customer earnings based on market conditions and grid requirements.
For customers preferring manual control over their battery systems, Origin offers the Battery Starter plan, which excludes VPP participation but provides an 18-cent peak feed-in tariff with uncapped solar and battery exports.
Chris Zondanos, general manager of electrify and new connections at Origin, said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to expanding customer options.
“We’re delighted to be working with the team at Fox ESS. Their batteries have quickly become a popular choice in the Australian market, and this integration reflects our commitment to provide more options for our customers to get the best value.”
The timing coincides with Fox ESS’s launch of its CQ6 High Voltage Battery in the Australian market. The new battery storage features higher energy density and modular design.
Australia’s VPP market has experienced significant growth as energy retailers and technology providers seek to aggregate distributed battery capacity for grid services and market participation.
In particular, the industry has seen major growth thanks to the Australian government’s AU$2.3 billion Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which commenced on 1 July 2025. ESN Premium heard that this subsidy scheme will likely turn the country into a ‘red-hot market’ for BESS.
The Energy Storage Summit Australia 2026 will be returning to Sydney on 18-19 March. It features keynote speeches and panel discussions on topics such as the Capacity Investment Scheme, long-duration energy storage, and BESS revenue streams. ESN Premium subscribers receive an exclusive discount on ticket prices.
