An energy storage component supplier is establishing a manufacturing site in Indiana that will create at least 300 jobs. Hanjung America, a subsidiary of South Korea-based Hanjung NCS, is building its first North American facility in Huntington, Indiana.
The company is a supplier for Samsung SDI and will make cooling systems and direct-injection fire extinguishers for EVs and containerized ESS.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation said Hanjung America will break ground next month on the 133-acre site in Riverfork West Industrial Park. The company expects to begin operation in June 2027.
“We are delighted to establish Hanjung America in Huntington and to become a member of the Indiana community, and we look forward to contributing to regional development,” said Kevin Kim, president of Hanjung America. “This new location allows us to better serve our local customers with our leading-edge technology ESS components.”
Hanjung NCS produces parts such as cooling fan modules, battery modules for electric and hybrid vehicles, and various sensors and controllers that support the functionality and safety of these systems. The Huntington factory is the company’s first manufacturing operation in North America, joining the company’s operations in South Korea, China and a U.S.-based customer service facility in Michigan.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation committed an investment in Hanjung America of up to $4.5 million in the form of incentive-based tax credits, up to $400,000 in Hoosier Business Investment tax credits, and up to $200,000 in training grants based on the company’s plans to invest significantly in Indiana and create more than 500 new jobs statewide. These incentives are performance-based, meaning the company is eligible to claim state benefits once investments are made and jobs are created. Huntington County offered additional incentives to support the project.
