, /PRNewswire/ — This Fourth of July, U.S. Money Reserve has partnered with longtime collaborator and television personality Mike Rowe to recognize World War II veteran Charlie “Birdie” Bird with a special presentation of U.S. Money Reserve’s exclusive 5 oz. Silver World War II: Valor & Victory Series 4-Coin Set.
Since its founding in 2001, U.S. Money Reserve has championed the importance of honoring the service and sacrifice of members of the U.S. Armed Forces—not only through the design and release of its exclusive coin sets in gold and silver, but also through meaningful acts of recognition. Most recently, U.S. Money Reserve presented a set of World War II: Valor & Victory Series coins to Vice Admiral John Nowell, USN (Ret.), President & CEO of the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation, in support of the Foundation’s ongoing mission to honor and preserve the legacy of the Sea Services.
Now, U.S. Money Reserve gives back to Charlie “Birdie” Bird, whose life has been marked by extraordinary service to his country. Birdie, now 100 years old, was just 18 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943. Like many of his generation, his personal ambitions were deferred as he answered his country’s call to service. It wasn’t until decades later, in 2024, that he was formally awarded his high school diploma through the Operation Recognition Program, which honors veterans whose education was interrupted by military duty.
The World War II: Valor & Victory Series, available exclusively through U.S. Money Reserve, features government-issued, legal-tender gold and silver coins. Each ultra-high relief proof coin in the four-coin set presented to Birdie displays powerful imagery commemorating key battles and events of World War II, including the Attack on Pearl Habor, the Battle of Midway, the Battle of Normandy and the Battle of Iwo Jima. The coin set pays tribute to the Greatest Generation, who selflessly served during wartime before returning home to raise families, build businesses, and lead the United States into a period of unprecedented growth and prosperity.
“We’re incredibly proud of the level of craftsmanship that went into our Valor & Victory Series,” says John Rothans, Chief Procurement Officer at U.S. Money Reserve. “Made with .9999 pure silver, each coin features a unique, highly intricate design, which we’ve accentuated through five levels of relief and three distinct finishes. These coins were designed with the legacy of our veterans in mind—from a quality perspective, it was important that we did it right.”
“The Valor & Victory Series is a symbol of our enduring gratitude for those like Charlie Bird who have risked their lives to defend freedom, often at great personal sacrifice,” says Angela Roberts, CEO of U.S. Money Reserve. “We believe that their stories deserve to be prioritized, preserved, and celebrated.”
In an exchange captured on video, Mike Rowe presents Charlie Bird with U.S. Money Reserve’s Valor & Victory silver coin set in recognition of Charlie’s sacrifice, bravery, and uncompromising resolve throughout his life and military career.

In the video, Mike sits down with Charlie at his home in West Virginia, where he shares a glimpse into his experiences serving in World War II, from basic training to his first combat position in Belgium. The two then travel to a nearby restaurant that Charlie regularly visits. Over cups of coffee, Mike presents Charlie with U.S. Money Reserve’s World War II: Valor & Victory silver coin set, a tribute to the enduring legacy of the Greatest Generation and a personal gesture of appreciation for Birdie’s service to the country.
“Dad tells everyone about the coins,” says Birdie’s daughter, Donna. “He is so thankful to be given them. He loves to tell others how down to earth and kind Mike and his crew are. The coins represent so much valor and pain.”
