Volvo Philippines Adds Hybrid XC60 & XC90 To Lineup

Last Updated on: 3rd July 2025, 11:59 am

Yesterday, Volvo Philippines introduced two new plug-in hybrid SUVs, the XC60 PHEV and the XC90 PHEV. The launch of the new NEVs coincides with Volvo PH’s “Being Alive” campaign.

According to Maria Fe Perez Agudo, Vice Chairman, President, and CEO of Hariphil Asia Resources Inc., the official distributor of Volvo Cars in the Philippines, the two SUVs reinforce the Scandinavian brand’s culture of safety and commitment to performance and aesthetics

The new Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid is for those who choose to raise the bar — versatile and ready for the everyday, prepared for life’s big moments, and designed to protect what matters most. It’s a high-breed SUV for drivers who value smart performance and responsible leadership on the road,” Agudo said at the black tie launch event.

The XC60 Hybrid

Since its introduction in 2017, the XC60 has been Volvo’s global best-seller. It is among Europe’s top plug-in hybrids, selling over 1.5 million units worldwide. It has demonstrated consistent performance and is recognized for its versatility in meeting both daily driving requirements and suitability for more significant occasions.

The hybrid powertrain delivers up to 80 kilometers of pure electric range. The 2.0L 4-cylinder petrol engine works in conjunction with an electric rear motor to provide an e-AWD system for longer distances. The design integrates the “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights, a crystal gear shifter by Orrefors, and a cabin with wood and aluminum accents. Nordico leather-free upholstery and an advanced air purifier are standard, as are laminated side glass, structural and aerodynamic improvements, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system.

Safety standards include the proven Volvo Pilot Assist, collision avoidance systems, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), intersection autobrake, and a 360° camera, all designed to support driver awareness and safety.

The Philippine version of the XC90 PHEV offers up to 77 kilometers of pure electric range for daily use, while its 2.0L 4-cylinder petrol engine provides extended range. The interior of the XC90 emphasizes comfort and protection, featuring Napa leather seating, genuine wood and aluminum décor, and a freestanding center display. These elements are ergonomically positioned to aid driver focus, reduce distraction, and enhance both comfort and safety.

The XC90, like the XC60, incorporates safety features such as Pilot Assist, collision avoidance systems, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), intersection autobrake, and a 360° camera, which operate to enhance safety for all road users.

“The Volvo XC90 Plug-in Hybrid is more than a vehicle that helps us exceed distance through intelligent hybrid technology — it is a symbol of how we, as leaders and individuals, can exceed the bar of responsibility. It represents our commitment to go beyond expectations, to care for people, and to drive meaningful change on the road and in society.” Agudo commented.

In the Philippines, Volvo is distributed by Hariphil Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), formerly known as Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc., which is also the official distributor of Hyundai commercial vehicles and Chevrolet passenger cars.

Being Alive = Vision Zero

Early last June, Volvo Philippines launched the Being Alive campaign.

In the totality of road safety activities in the country, this landmark initiative designed to dramatically reduce road-related fatalities in the country, aligning with the global Vision Zero goal. More than just highlighting the inherent safety of Volvo vehicles, this campaign advocates for a holistic safety-first mindset that extends to all road users — drivers, pedestrians, and commuters alike.

It emphasizes that achieving truly safe roads requires a collective effort, going beyond technological advancements in cars to foster a shared sense of responsibility and conscious decision-making among everyone.

To realize its ambitious goals, Being Alive employs a multi-faceted approach.

This includes strategic collaborations with academic institutions like De La Salle University for the establishment of Volvo Safety Labs, fostering innovation in road safety. The campaign also actively engages the public through road safety summits, community activities, and public awareness initiatives such as the Volvo’s First video series, which humanizes the impact of safety.

“Empowering Filipinos to live life to the fullest, confident in a future where safety isn’t just a feature, but a deeply ingrained cultural value shared and upheld by all. This is what Volvo represents,” Agudo told CleanTechnica about the series of safety-focused videos.
