Sonnedix acquires 260MW/1,040MWh Tuscany portfolio
IPP Sonnedix has acquired two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Tuscany, central Italy, from developer Sphera Energy.
The standalone projects total 160MW/640MWh and 100MW/400MWh and will help Sonnedix provide competitively priced renewable power in the country, where it is also building and operating solar PV. In March, it acquired six solar PV projects, all backed by long-term PPAs.
Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix, said: “We took our first step into battery storage in other Italian regions last year. Now we’re building on that with real scale in Tuscania. Batteries let us do more with the power we’re already generating, storing it and deploying it when it’s needed most. Hybridisation and optimisation are the direction our whole portfolio is heading, and with our long-term footprint and deep expertise in the region, Italy is well placed to lead the way.”
Strioga Family Foundation acquires 49.99% stake in Tuscany BESS
Also in the Tuscany region, the Strioga Family Foundation has acquired a 49.99% stake in a BESS project from developer Enfinity Global.
The project in Livorno totals 150MW/600MWh and Enfinity will remain responsible for completing the remaining development and construction, as well as serving as the long-term asset manager.
The Foundation made the investment via its E Energy Invest subsidiary, and the deal marks its entry into the Italian market. This week has also seen it announce an investment into a project in Finland in partnership with BESS IPP Delta Capacity, covered separately here.
BNZ orders 240MWh of BESS from Sungrow to hybridise solar in Italy
IPP BNZ has signed a strategic agreement with BESS and inverter firm Sungrow for 240MWh of the latter’s technology for two solar projects in Lazio, which neighbours Tuscany in central Italy.
The contract covers the supply and long-term service of BESS equipment for BNZ’s existing Rinaldone and Camposcala solar PV projects.
BNZ, part of infrastructure investor Nuveen, revealed its plans to hybridise its solar PV projects in Spain, Italy and Portugal with 850MW BESS in April this year. This is the first firm order announced as part of that pipeline.
LONGi to supply BESS for RWE solar-plus-storage in Italy
Solar PV firm LONGi will supply 300MWh of BESS to power firm RWE for a solar-plus-storage project in Italy.
The firm will supply 300MWh of its LONGiBank 6.25 MWh, LFP-based BESS solution configured for a 4-hour duration. It didn’t specify the project or location. LONGi implied it will also supply the solar PV modules for the project, but didn’t specify the size of the solar portion.
It is one of the company’s first major storage order announcements in Europe since it acquired battery storage system integrator PotisEdge late last year. The 6.25MWh solution is based on PotisEdge’s technology.
