Kinematics expands solar tracker repowering services by acquiring RenuTrak

Kinematics is acquiring RenuTrak, a company based in Mesa, Arizona, that repowers single-axis solar tracker projects. Kinematics manufactures motion control systems for several industries, but primarily works with solar trackers by producing actuators, slew drives and controls that make those systems move.

“This acquisition represents an important step in advancing our mission to deliver high-quality solar tracker solutions at scale,” said John Payne, CEO of Kinematics. “RenuTrak brings strong expertise in the solar repower market and shares our commitment to quality and innovation. Together, we are better positioned to meet the evolving needs of the global solar industry.”

RenuTrak specializes is repairing malfunctioning solar trackers without replacing the system’s entire structure, updating individual components instead, including tracker controls.

This acquisition will complement Kinematics’ existing initiative to repower underperforming solar tracker projects. The company developed actuators capable of replacing faulty ones on existing solar projects, and acquired tracker control company P4Q to bolster its retrofitting capabilities. Acquiring RenuTrak expands Kinematics’ solar tracker repowering possibilities.

“We’ve built RenuTrak around delivering value-driven solutions for our customers by starting at the total cost of ownership and developing solutions backward from there,” said Josh Fraughton, CEO and founder of RenuTrak. “Kinematics had been a strategic partner in that journey, and joining Kinematics allows us to accelerate that vision and bring even greater resources and innovation to the solar industry.” Josh will continue to serve as the primary point of contact for repower customers, ensuring continuity in customer relationships, project execution, and technical support while providing a seamless transition into the Kinematics organization.
