Music venue turns up green energy efforts

Birkenhead live music venue Future Yard is extending its partnership with green energy supplier Ecotricity for another year to work towards reducing emissions across the live events sector.

The organisations will share energy data and explore further lower-carbon solutions.

Future Yard has set a target of reaching operational net zero by 2030. The venue, which already uses 100% renewable electricity and carbon-neutralised gas supplied by Ecotricity, is also working to reduce emissions linked to audience travel.

Dale Vince OBE, Founder of Ecotricity, said: “Future Yard is proving that live music doesn’t have to run on fossil fuels. It’s a lovely venue putting on great events, cutting carbon and having a real social impact.

“We’re happy to be teaming up for a third year, together showing that cleaner, greener live music isn’t an aspiration – it’s a happening now thing.”

The partnership comes as Future Yard prepares to expand its operations in Birkenhead. The venue has announced plans for a new 600-capacity indoor venue and studio complex, alongside wider proposals to increase its audience capacity and year-round programme.

The organisations will continue initiatives including Future Yard’s POP climate conference and green travel programmes, aimed at encouraging audiences, artists and local communities to reduce emissions.

The collaboration enters its third year as they continue to support Merseyside’s popular arts scene.
