Ofgem will investigate how well the electricity system and market performed throughout the June heatwave, after receiving NESO’s account.
The factual account provided by NESO establishes the sequence of events and notable actions taken during the week beginning 22nd June.
The regulator says it has reviewed the report and updated its lines of enquiry to focus on security of the system, operational planning and decision-making and interconnector flows.
Kayte O’Neill, Chief Operating Officer at NESO, said: “This was a very challenging period for the power system in Great Britain, and for power systems around Europe. Our Control Room engineers did an outstanding job, ensuring that no customers were disconnected and the frequency always remained within statutory limits.”
Ofgem says it has not drawn conclusions or made regulatory judgement about actions or events yet.
The regulator is aiming to publish the conclusions “as soon as possible” and no later than the 31st January 2027.
