Waaree Solar Americas, the solar panel brand that bought the former Meyer Burger facility in Goodyear, Arizona, announced it would invest around $37 million into the site to bring it back online. A subsidiary of India’s Waaree Energies Limited, the American division will reach 1.6 GW of annual solar panel assembly capacity at the Goodyear site after the upgrades.
Once the Goodyear site is fully online, Waaree will have a total of 4.8 GW of solar panel assembly capacity in the United States, with 3.2 GW in Texas and 1.6 GW in Arizona.
Heterojunction technology (HJT) pioneer Meyer Burger made solar panels out of the Goodyear site for just one year before filing bankruptcy in June 2025. At the time, Meyer Burger was the only HJT panel manufacturer in the United States. Although the Goodyear facility and equipment were sold to Waaree, Meyer Burger’s HJT patents were acquired by Swift Solar, a perovskite startup.
Waaree manufactures a range of solar modules, including PERC, TOPCon and HJT designs. In the company’s Goodyear upgrade announcement, Waaree only mentioned it would make high-efficiency modules at the site.
